Electrical Power Engineer / Project Lead

  Primary Purpose of the Job: This position will report to the Central Engineering Manager and is responsible for providing project leadership and management in the engineering, design, procurement, construction, and implementation of systems and equipment for production, R&D processes, and infrastructure at Arconic Technical Center.  Identify and develop innovative solutions to problems involving the modification and installation of power distribution systems related to electricalinfrastructure and installation of new and relocated equipment for various on-site research entities. The incumbent is responsible for assembling the project team, identifying the resources required to execute project tasks and driving high performance by holding members accountable for execution of project deliverables.  The incumbent will work closely with the Project Manager/Coordinator, Engineering Resource Manager and Central Engineering Manager to define and coordinate the necessary engineering resources required for their projects outside of their own engineering discipline. The successful candidate will mentor and provide leadership to Engineering Resource team driving increased proficiency and consistent demonstration of project methodology.  The Electrical Power Engineer shall be expected to take the lead on Capital and R&D Projects incorporating and consistently executing projects utilizing project management best practices in accordance the FEL project Approach. The incumbent will manage the project budget to the planned forecasted spend delivering project tasks to the agreed upon commitment dates with formal close out of projects via final project report.   Major Activities / Key Challenges: Responsible and SPA (Single Person Accountable) for the site electrical safety program ensuring all aspects of the program are consistently executed safely and all trainings for electrically qualified individuals are current. Responsible and Site Designee for compliance with Arconic high voltage engineering standard 32.60 derived from NEC/NFPA standards Conducts engineering studies of alternative equipment, materials, and procedures and recommends the selection of same, to best meet the project objectives. Execute engineering projects utilizing systematic engineering approach formalized through Central Engineering Project Methodology. Work closely with Researchers, EHS, Procurement, Project Program Manager, and Project Manager/Coordinator to ensure timely response to Engineering Project Requests. Leadership in devising execution strategy of the project and influence the technical discussion. Frequent contact with other technical professionals and is seen as the authority in a specific area (i.e. Power Distribution, Power Monitoring and Control, NFPA, NEC, OSHA and Arconic electrical engineering standards) Provides innovative solutions; viewed as subject matter expert within engineering discipline. Able to specify electrical design criteria for proposed new installations including writing specifications, proposals, RFQ etc. Provides cost estimates and engineering proposals for projects which are being considered and provides engineering support to Maintenance and operation of plant facilities i.e. power distributioninfrastructure. Prepares requests for authorization, purchase requisitions, and specifications for purchase and installation of new equipment for facilities and major R&D installations. Directs the activities of designers, maintenance personnel, and outside contractors during field construction, PM of site switchgear, planned and unplanned site wide electrical power outages and resolves start-up and operating problems. Fosters technical growth in others by acting as a technical mentor Coaching and Mentoring to develop project methodology skill set and leadership. Electrical power outage - lead and assist site operations with setup and coordination Technical counsel to Maintenance on emergency breakdowns and restart of site Instructor for electrical standards and authority having jurisdiction on interpretation Transparency of work breakdown structure driving execution and accountability; what is the task, who is responsible and by when. Documenting and managing changes to scope, specification, budget and schedule through formal change management plan. Motivate and drive accountability via communication through project team meetings, metrics and overall transparency of projects.  E.g. On-time delivery, Budget vs. Actual spend forecasts, On-budget, EHS compliance, productivity, cost avoidance, on-time and on-target project deliverables, project transparency report(s).     Essential Knowledge & Skills / Education: He/She must have a broad and in-depth knowledge of electrical engineering disciplines including; power distribution systems, transformers, motor control centers, transfer switches, UPS systems, generator sets, variable frequency drives, induction furnaces, PLC and computer-based control systems, motion control, instrumentation and process control, relay logic and control wiring, and NEC and NFPA standards. Extensive knowledge of Electrical Distribution Systems including maintainability, design and regulatory requirements. Training and practice with high voltage standard and safety. Diverse experience in Electrical Engineering principals. Expertise in PID and PLC logic development using diverse systems, and system integration. Expertise in Plant Power Distribution long term planning and sustainability Working knowledge in HMI development, data acquisition, Ethernet OPC based networking. Individual must have the interpersonal, communication, and technical skills to work with engineers, maintenance and research technicians and outside vendors. Have the ability to multi-task and organize projects to bring to successful completion. Have the skills to work in a dynamic technical environment. Demonstrate behavior which contributes to an environment conducive to assimilation and acceptance of a diverse workforce. Works safely and promotes safe attitudes and compliance with Arconic safety rules and environmental regulations. Experience in Design Engineering with strong creativity skills. Electrical Engineering experience gained through 10+ years of practical industrial application. Knowledge of project methodology and demonstrates project leadership and systematic engineering with industrial knowledge e.g. electrical power systems and controls. Excellent critical, conceptual, and analytical thinking skills. Excellent collaboration, decision-making, computer, and written and verbal communication skills. Adept at building high performing cross functional project teams. Adept at defining the project execution strategy and influencing the technical discussion. Consistently demonstrates the ability to deliver projects utilizing project management methods and tools e.g. Microsoft Project, Daptiv, Scope, Change Management, Technical Package and WBS. PMP or work experience in project management with short course equivalent.  #LI-CB1 Qualifications Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution. Minimum of 7 years of power distributionexperience in an industrial environment utilizing and interpreting power modeling software. Minimum of 5 years' project management experience. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
